Hey Everyone, Garens writing an article today.
So, yesterday was quite fun, and I have an interesting Robocraft article coming up in the next few days thanks to a friend of mine.
But today there is another topic I wanted to write about: Building your robos. Now, this could be a bit annoying and long process, with many changes to design, armor, weapons and the like. I want you to not have these frustrations, as I've fought with them since the beginnings.
So, some pictures of my flyer prototype as I go through these.
I want to tell you something first. This guide will assume you have another robo that you can farm the RP with. If you do not have another robo, then just wait a few days, as I will most likely do another guide on building your FIRST robo. Without further I do, let's get into things.
Step 1: Find a design.
Now, you may think that this is absurd or too easy to be listed here but I see so many teammates who just cannot find a design they like. A wall with a few weapons is not good. You may find them funny or interesting but that is the exact opposite. I've seen a guy when I was about Tier 2, who had no wheels, no way of transporting, just a cube of white blocks with weapons on top. He was joking around about it, but I found it annoying. Just one less person of the team that can shoot at enemies.
To Find a design you might want to do a google search, or look around on the great forums. I've found the new design of my Crusader on the forums of Robocraft.
Step 2: Build your design with basic cubes
Whenever you find your perfect design you think you can build, then next step you want to do is building it.
You can see here where I'm going with my design. The body of the plane is finished, everything has a place, I just need the Aerofoils and one Rudder.
You DON'T WANT TO BUILD WITH OTHER THAN WHITE BLOCKS! This is very important, that is why there is caps lock involved. You want to spare as much money on your next robo as possible, right? Then why build it out of anything but free blocks? This is the key. The design MUST be made with white blocks. I have to say it again: White Blocks. They are free and the prisms and other design pieces are almost free (10 per piece) so why waste money on something you are not even sure about? If you have the design but don't want a carbon copy of it you might wanna add some personal detail.
I've ranted enough about this point, let's go on.
Step 3: Have the thing built and ready for hardware
You want to get the robo that you're building armed and ready. But the fastest way is to use your other robo(s) and go out and GRIND the RP you need. You can do it one piece by one piece or just flat out farm the whole money, the method is on you.
However, you might have to grind a lot. Like me. And then you just forget what you wanted to put on a place. Or you might forget where the wings go. This is where marking comes in handy. This is not secret, and not even that difficult. Just put blocks where everything goes. On this picture you can see that my Driver Seat, Radar and Thrusters are finely placed, but there are four blocks sticking out. Those are the markings of the wings. The only thing you have to remember that every block is different, so you can mark anything with just blocks. Then you only have to remember what you wanted there.
Step 4: Armoring and Arming
This is very important. Armoring a robo appropriately is not hard but many forget. You want to put well tiered armor on your robo. Don't go into battle with a tier 7 robo that has tier 3 armor... You'll just get annihilated in seconds. Also, when you have all your hardware set up you can just about see what tier your robo will be. THEN you start armoring it, bit by bit, not forgetting the middle parts, as they are just as important. If you don't get what I mean by that, I'll make it clear after another picture.
You can see here my 'Smart' placement of the SRIMECH (Self Rightening Mechanism) this is not the actual name of the thing, this is just what I call it. And you can see that it's placed INSIDE of the whole body. That is what I mean by 'middle bits'. There must be something behind armor blocks: preferably more armor blocks.
Step 5: NEVER FORGET
NEVER FORGET TESTING THE THING! OMG! I've seen so many people just doing a random shape with some Aerofoils or Hoverblades and then jumping straight into battle. Test the damn thing to see if it can actually stay upright. You can do this by pressing 'P' near your thing and this will land you in a nice environment of noob AI that can do nothing but follow you and then run away. This is done so that you can see if your robo will actually do what it's supposed to do in battle.
This is the back of my flyer. It has no relevance whatsoever to the topic, just a random picture to break up the text a bit.
So, these are my 5 steps to making a functional robo that you can fight with normally. There will be no recap, I want you to read the whole thing, not just skip to the ending. Tomorrow there'll be another building guide, only on your first/only robo.
Remember, building is just one part of the game. There is still Drive and Fight. You want to do all of them. (Building is the most fun, I admit).
If you found this guide helpful, please tell your friends, invite them to the party at robocraft.
If you found that there is a point missing, or I've told something wrong, please let me know.
Anyways, Thanks for reading, and I'll see ya tomorrow.
